It doesn’t fucking bang things

January 28th, 2009

On complexity of software.. a plea for simplicity. The funny stuff starts at 2:10.

John Scholes calls Eds hardware store to complain about the design of one of his tools The Masso-matic SK-90 Digital Lump Hammer. John is the Senior APL Language designer at Dyalog Ltd (from Johns talk celebrating the 25th anniversary of Dyalog APL).

I came to this video from another video of the same author where he step by step creates Conway’s game of life in one line of APL . That video is also interesting and is here.

Visual studio too complicated? I dont know, it seems pretty simple to me.

I stopped making games in c++ (partially) because of it. The language was fine, but all the settings and options and flags to prepare for each project was too much.

It’s a mater of personal perspective too, some people like to work with IDE-s/RAD-s.. some other (like me too) want to code in simple text editors. To me it’s a lot more complicated than notepad++ or jedit or lately emacs that I use :)
